Looking for Marathon Runners with Ichthyosis
I’ve been searching for others with ichthyosis who have run marathons, but so far I haven’t found anyone with a similar experience. I do know of a few inspiring individuals: Nadine from the U.S. completed a ~75-mile relay run and had plans for a half marathon, and Gordon from the UK is currently training for an ultra marathon along Hadrian’s Wall (~112 km). Their stories are incredibly motivating.
I’d love to connect with more people who have ichthyosis and have taken on endurance sports like marathons. Personally, I have a form of ichthyosis that is part of a broader syndrome (CHILD) and affects only certain areas of my body. Despite the challenges, I’ve completed 16 marathons so far. The photo I’m sharing is from the finish line of one of them – a moment that represents both physical achievement and personal resilience.
If you or someone you know has ichthyosis and has run a marathon (or is training for one), I’d be thrilled to hear your story! Please send an email to cwassel@firstskinfoundation.org and she will put you in touch with me.
