| Honoring Dr. Roop's Commitment to Ichthyosis The faculty and volunteers of the Charles C. Gates Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Biology are pleased to join FIRST (Foundation for Ichthyosis & Related Skin Types) in honoring Dennis R. Roop, PhD, for his ground-breaking research to correct inherited skin diseases.Dr. Roop has committed over twenty years of his prestigious career to determine the causes of blistering skin diseases, which largely impact children. This work has been partially funded by FIRST over the past four years. With collaborators from the University of Minnesota, Dr. Roop is close to testing a new therapy based on adult stem cell technology that holds the potential to reverse the devastating effects of these diseases.
Dr. Roop, the Director of the Gates Center and Professor in Dermatology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, is leading a team of world-class clinicians and scientists who are using adult stem cell biology and cutting-edge regenerative medicine techniques to pursue cures and therapies for inherited skin diseases, injuries and diseases in the brain and spinal cord, regeneration of bones and ligaments, restoring vision where blindness was caused by injury, cancer stem cell-directed therapies, the development of a universal blood stem cell line, and making repairs to the cardiovascular system. The dinner on June 21st will honor the work of Dennis Roop and support FIRST in their relentless pursuit of cures, better therapies, and support for families of inherited skin diseases. and provide a glimpse into the new frontier of personalized medicine that is being charted at our very own University of Colorado Charles C. Gates Center. |
