Beach Run & Walk - New York (2014)

Ace in the Hole Foundation hosted its fifth annual Lido Beach Run/Walk at Lido West Beach on Long Island, New York. The event was held in honor of 1st Lt. Michael LiCalzi who died in action in Iraq on May 11, 2006, and whose twin brother, Greg LiCalzi Jr., is the President and Founder of Ace in the Hole Foundation, serves on the Board of Directors of FIRST and is affected with lamellar ichthyosis.

The event was a two mile run/walk beginning at the “1st Lt Michael LiCalzi Path” at Lido West Beach. This year’s milestone event honored Lance CPL Jason K. Burnett USMC, who died with Mike in their tank in 2006. Jason’s parents, Ron and Shelley Burnett, traveled from St. Cloud, Florida to be in attendance. Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray, a longtime supporter of the LiCalzi family and Ace in the Hole Foundation, and Scott Snyder, who launched the “Bike for Mike” fundraising campaign last summer by biking from Oregon to New York, raising over $12,000, were also honored. Also in attendance were active duty Marines from 2d Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, in Camp Lejeune North Carolina. All registrants received a race-day t-shirt and the event concluded with a raffle with prizes including 2 round-trip tickets flying anywhere in America via Southwest Airlines, 4 tickets to Disney World, gift cards to restaurants, and many more.

"For the fifth consecutive year, we have received tremendous support from the Town Of Hempstead and our local community. Because of them, I know Mike’s legacy will live on, providing help to those in need. We especially appreciated

the presence of the Burnett family who came from Florida to be here.” said Greg LiCalzi Jr. “It is amazing to be able to honor my brother each year at one of his favorite places, Lido West Beach, and I look forward to seeing the growth of this event that unites us for years to come."

Longtime FIRST member, and Board of Directors member, Denise Benedetto attended the event with her family and wonderful friends.  Denise's son, Marc, is affected with lamellar ichthyosis.  Each year the Benedettos participate in the beach run to support Greg's efforts.
